Houghton Grabs a Must Needed Home Victory Against Penn State Behrend

Box Score The Houghton College Men's Tennis team snapped their 5 game losing skid with a dominate 8-1 performance over Penn State Behrend Tuesday afternoon. Following behind them, Adam Brown and Matthew Cicero, closed the third pairing with an 8-1 win. Micah Schilke and Levi Webb fell just shy 8-6 at the first position.

The Highlanders did not take their foot off the gas as the match transitioned into singles play. Micah Schilke would take a spirited victory 6-4, 6-3 against a quality competitor at the first position. Staerkle, who picked up his first college victory on the afternoon, would close his match 6-2, 6-2 at the second flight. Matthew Ciciero would cash in the lone double bagel of the afternoon winning 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. Levi Webb and Nolan Zach each snagged identical 6-1, 6-1 victories at the fourth and fifth spots respectively, and Adam Brown closed out play with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the final sixth position.

"It feels really nice to grab a win in convincing fashion" Head Coach Zach Shilvock said post match. "The men have been working hard, and it is great to see that rewarded with a win here today. There is still a lot to improve on, but we will enjoy tonight and get back to work tomorrow."

The Highlanders will look to gain some momentum with another win against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday at 1pm in KPAC.
