Men's Tennis Falls to St. John Fisher at Home

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Houghton University men's tennis team displayed great competitive spirit on Saturday afternoon, hosting St. John Fisher University at the Kerr Pegula Field House. While the final score favored the visitors, 7-0, the Highlanders pushed their opponents in several tightly contested sets throughout the match.

The highlight of the afternoon for Houghton came at #2 doubles, where the duo of Preston Tobolski and Jason Murphy delivered a stellar performance. The pair showcased excellent chemistry to secure a 6-4 victory over their Fisher counterparts.

Houghton's resilience was on full display during singles play, with several Highlanders taking sets down to the wire:

  • Marathon Match at #6: Jason Murphy played the most thrilling match of the day. After grinding out a brilliant 7-6 (7-5) win in the opening set, he pushed the match to a third-set tiebreaker, narrowly falling 10-12 in a high-energy finish.

  • Top Flight Intensity: At #1 singles, Rune Camps battled Tyler Hernandez through two tough sets, including a narrow 7-5 loss in the second frame.

  • Hard-Fought Frames: Preston Tobolski showed great form in his opening set at #2 singles, taking it to a 6-6 tie before an unfortunate retirement. Eben Schilke and Jonas Likens also contributed for the Highlanders.
