ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis lost to Nazareth College 6-3 on Saturday, jeopardizing their hopes for postseason play.
The result gives Houghton, Nazareth and St. John Fisher each three conference losses. If Alfred defeats Nazareth on Sunday, Houghton will earn the tournament's third seed. If Elmira beats St. John Fisher, Houghton will have the fourth seed. If both Nazareth and St. John Fisher win, Houghton will be on the outside looking in due to tiebreakers.
Saturday against Nazareth, the Highlanders dug themselves into an early hole, by losing two of the three doubles matches. Jordan Scott and Bjorn Webb teamed to get Houghton's only win.
If Houghton had managed to split the six singles matches, they would have guaranteed a spot in the E8 tournament. Unfortunately, the Highlanders were only able to win two of the four matches, with Zach Shilvock and Jordan Scott garnering the victories.
