UTICA, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis improved their record to 4-4 overall as they claimed an 8-1 win over Utica College in the Empire 8 opener for each team Friday.

Houghton got wins in all three doubles matches and in second through sixth singles. Jordan Crouch (Fillmore, NY, Fillmore Central), Zach Shilvock (Alexander, NY , Alexander HS), Jordan Scott (Burlington, ON, Canada, Notre Dame Secondary), Matthew Greer (Spencerport, NY, Churchville-Chili) and Holden Cole (Richburg, NY, Bolivar-Richburg) each claimed wins in singles action.

Chase Rangel (Houghton, NY, Fillmore) and Crouch, Scott and Bjorn Webb (Houghton, NY, Fillmore Central), and Shilvock and Connor Barnes (Sodus, NY, Sodus) teamed up for doubles wins.

Houghton (4-4; 1-0 E8) is back in action against Stevens Tech in Hoboken, N.J., on Saturday.
