HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Following another competitive season in the highly regarded Empire 8 Conference, the Houghton University baseball program earned multiple all-conference honors, highlighted by senior catcher Christian Tortorici being named First Team All-Empire 8 for the second consecutive season.
Tortorici headlined a group of three Highlanders recognized by the conference.
A native of Schenectady, New York, Christian Tortorici put together one of the top offensive seasons in the conference. The senior catcher batted .408 with 53 hits, 16 doubles, four triples, 37 RBI, 29 runs scored and a .615 slugging percentage over 35 games. He also posted a .490 on-base percentage while throwing out 16 baserunners from behind the plate. Tortorici finished among the Empire 8 leaders in batting average, doubles and total bases while earning First Team All-Conference honors at catcher for the second straight year.
Senior outfielder Qingyang Feng earned Second Team All-Empire 8 recognition after a standout all-around season at the plate. Feng hit .324 with 44 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 30 RBI while leading the Highlanders with 84 total bases and a .618 slugging percentage. He also added 30 runs scored and 18 walks during his senior campaign.
Senior infielder Vincent Lucyszyn was selected as Houghton's representative on the Empire 8 Baseball Tomorrow's Leaders Team. Lucyszyn started all 36 games for the Highlanders and hit .264 with 35 runs scored, 32 hits, 11 doubles and 27 walks while posting a .455 on-base percentage. Defensively, he recorded 83 assists and helped turn 14 double plays. The Tomorrow's Leaders Team recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate leadership on the field, in the classroom and throughout their communities.
