Highlanders Rally in Game Two to Earn Split with Fisher

PITTSFORD, NY— The St. John Fisher Cardinals opened their three-game series with a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals took the opener with some late-game offensive heroics, but the Highlanders evened the series with a rally, capped by a ninth-inning game-winner.

GAME 1 RECAP:
The Cardinals capitalized on nine walks and some timely hitting, including a three-run bomb by Player-of-the-Year candidate Jack Griffin.
 
The teams battled throughout the early going, but with Fisher holding a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Griffin's home run sent a knock-out blow from which the Highlanders never recovered.
 
Justin Christensen improved to 6-0 on the season, striking out nine over 5.1 innings of work, while allowing three unearned runs. 
 
Ty Kenney went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for the Highlanders.
 
GAME 2 RECAP:
With the score knotted, 4-4, Vincent Lucyszyn laced a single through the right side, scoring John Fedorowicz with the go-ahead run.
 
The Highlanders trailed, 4-1, after four innings, but single runs in the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings, while Nate Tyler finished out his career on the mound with four scoreless innings.
 
Lucyszyn and Qingyang Feng each went 2-for-5 in the winning effort.
 
UP NEXT
The Highlanders and Cardinals return to Dugan yard tomorrow for the final game in their series.  First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
