Highlanders Fall to Elmira in Barnburner

HOUGHTON, NY— In a barnburner of a game that saw seven lead changes, and nearly everything that could happen on a baseball field happen under the Houghton lights, the Elmira Soaring Eagles came back from a late two-run deficit to defeat the Houghton Highlanders, 18-15.

The two teams combined for 29 total hits, but errors and walks plagued them both, as the Highlanders and Soaring Eagles also combined to issue 22 free passes and commit 10 errors.

Trailing 13-10, Houghton pushed across four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 15-13 lead.

But a two-run double by Connor Stone in the top of the sixth tied the game, and a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch, and an infield single scored three more runs for the Soaring Eagles in the eighth, completing the scoring.
