Box Score

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Houghton University men's tennis team earned a strong 5-2 victory over Nazareth on Saturday afternoon at the Golisano Training Center, improving to 5-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Empire 8.

Houghton set the tone early by claiming two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point. The duo of Rune Camps and Eben Schilke secured a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Preston Tobolski and Jason Murphy delivered a convincing 6-2 victory in the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, the Highlanders showcased depth, capturing four of the six matches. Rune Camps was dominant at the top of the lineup, cruising to a straight-set win at No. 1 singles. Eben Schilke followed with a hard-fought victory at No. 2, battling through a tight second set to secure the match.

Houghton also found key wins in the lower half of the lineup. Jason Murphy earned a three-set victory at No. 5 singles, rallying after dropping the second set to clinch the match. Caleb Hilsher added another point with a solid straight-set win at No. 6.

Nazareth picked up points at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, but the Highlanders' early doubles advantage and consistent singles play proved to be the difference in the match.

The Highlanders travel to take on Daemen on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
