FREDONIA, N.Y. — The Houghton University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Fredonia State Tuesday evening at Steele Hall Courts.
Houghton opened the match with a victory at No. 1 doubles, as Sage Brinckerhoff and Zoe Zachery earned a 6-0 win over Gabbi Farr and Amelia Stathatos.
Fredonia responded with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
The Highlanders battled back in singles, winning three of the six matches. Brinckerhoff posted a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, while Victoria Martinez earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.
Zoe Zachery also picked up a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Allison Bartoszek, 6-1, 6-1.
Fredonia secured the team victory by winning at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles.
