HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Sage Brinckerhoff earned Houghton's lone team point with a dominant performance at No. 1 singles as the Highlanders opened Empire 8 Conference play Friday with a 6-1 setback to Brockport at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
DOUBLES
Brinckerhoff and Zoe Zachery put together a competitive performance at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-4. Victoria Martinez and Abigail Lloyd dropped their No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, while Jessica Fornah and Prashansa Chakrapani were defeated at No. 3.
SINGLES
Brinckerhoff provided the Highlanders' highlight of the afternoon, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.
Martinez also battled through a three-set match at No. 2 singles. After taking the opening set, 6-4, she fell in the final two sets, 6-1, 6-4. Zachery dropped a close 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 3 singles.
Lloyd fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, while Chakrapani dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 5. Fornah battled at No. 6 before falling 6-0, 6-1.
