Women's Soccer Improves to .500 after Home Win

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Houghton University women's soccer team scored four times in the first half and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Pitt-Bradford Tuesday evening at Burke Field. The Highlanders improve to 2-2-0 on the season, while Pitt-Bradford falls to 0-1-1.

GAME FLOW

Houghton wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Elena Esh scored in the fifth minute off an assist from Gracelyn Williams to give the Highlanders an early 1-0 lead.

Esh struck again in the 23rd minute, scoring off an assist from Taylor Curyto. Just 12 seconds later, Hope Russell extended the lead to 3-0 with an assist from Karryne Mims.

The Highlanders added a fourth goal in the 32nd minute when Samara Hallett scored unassisted, sending Houghton into halftime with a commanding 4-0 advantage.

Houghton continued to control play in the second half, finishing the match with a 26-2 advantage in shots and a 14-1 edge in shots on goal. The Highlanders also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Olivia Short played all 90 minutes in goal for Houghton and recorded one save while earning the shutout.
