HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Houghton University women's soccer team earned its first win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Geneva College, 2-0, at Burke Field. The Highlanders improve to 1-2-0 on the season, while Geneva falls to 2-1-0.

Houghton grabbed the lead in the 11th minute when Hope Russell found the back of the net off an assist from Sophia Templeton.
The Highlanders maintained the 1-0 advantage through halftime before Grace Russell doubled the lead in the 50th minute. Grace Russell's goal was assisted by Sarah Seeling and Gracelyn Williams.
Houghton controlled the offensive chances throughout the match, finishing with a 12-7 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Highlander defense held Geneva without a goal, while goalkeeper Olivia Short made two saves to record the shutout.
