Men's Soccer Salvages Tie with Two Late Goals

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Houghton University men's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Chatham University Saturday afternoon at Burke Field. The Highlanders move to 1-1-1 on the season, while Chatham moves to 0-1-1.

GAME FLOW

Chatham took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Nico Gibbins converted a penalty kick. The Cougars carried the advantage into halftime.

Chatham extended its lead in the 56th minute when Ben Mackin found the back of the net, putting the Highlanders in a 2-0 hole.

Houghton answered in a big way just over 11 minutes later. Elijah Bailey converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to cut the deficit to one.

Just four minutes later, Abram Reynolds scored to bring the Highlanders level at 2-2. Houghton and Chatham battled through the final 23 minutes, but neither team could find the go-ahead goal.

The Highlanders finished with a 7-6 advantage in shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Houghton also held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
