HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Nazareth University defeated Houghton University, 7-0, in women's tennis Empire 8 action Friday afternoon at Kerr-Pegula Field House.
Doubles
Nazareth opened the match by taking all three doubles matches. Sage Brinckerhoff and Victoria Martinez came closest for Houghton at No. 1 doubles, falling to Anna Spencer and Lily Brady, 7-5. Abigail Lloyd and Zoe Zachery dropped a 7-5 decision to Elizabeth Adamson and Victoria Cioni at No. 2 doubles, while Prashansa Chakrapani and Jessica Fornah fell to Paige Masrouri and Lia Ferro, 6-0, at No. 3.
Singles
Brinckerhoff provided Houghton's closest challenge in singles competition. Playing at No. 1 singles, Brinckerhoff won the opening set against Brady, 6-0, before Brady rallied to take the second set, 7-5, and the deciding tiebreak, 10-4.
Nazareth won the remaining five singles matches in straight sets. Spencer defeated Martinez, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2, while Cioni topped Zachery, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3. Masrouri defeated Lloyd, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, and Adamson earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chakrapani at No. 5. At No. 6, Aiyanah Reed defeated Fornah, 6-1, 6-1.
Houghton returns to action at home Saturday, hosting Cortland for a noon match.
