HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Houghton University women's soccer team fell to Fredonia, 2-1, Friday evening at Burke Field. The Highlanders drop to 0-2-0 overall, while Fredonia improves to 1-1-0.

Fredonia opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Gabby Irwin found the net at 14:49. Bronwyn Madden then converted a penalty kick at 19:58 to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 advantage. Houghton answered late in the half when Russell scored at 38:34, with Torppey providing the assist. Fredonia carried a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Neither team scored in the second half. Houghton generated two shots after halftime and earned four corner kicks in the period, while Short made three second-half saves to keep the Highlanders within one. Fredonia finished with 11 shots to Houghton's seven, while Houghton held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
