BELMONT, NY – Houghton Women's Volleyball split its two matches Saturday at Genesee Valley Central School, earning a thrilling five-set victory over Lycoming before falling to SUNY Morrisville in three sets. The Highlanders rallied from a 2-1 deficit against Lycoming to win 3-2 before facing Morrisville in the afternoon.
The Highlanders opened the day against Lycoming and took the first set, 25-17. Lycoming answered by taking the second set 25-20, and the Warriors edged Houghton 25-23 in the third set. Houghton responded by taking the fourth set 25-14 before completing the comeback with a 16-14 victory in the decisive fifth set.
Houghton recorded 60 kills against Lycoming while hitting .179 as a team. The Highlanders also finished with 79 digs and nine service aces.
Alexa Belanger led the offense with 23 kills and a .386 hitting percentage, while
Jessica Prentice added 12 kills and
Praylan Perkins recorded nine.
Houghton then faced SUNY Morrisville in its second match of the day. The Highlanders battled throughout the three-set match but ultimately fell 25-20, 25-23, 25-22.
Against Morrisville, Houghton recorded 36 kills and hit .156 as a team while collecting 44 digs.
Viktoriia Lozynska led the Highlanders with seven kills on 11 attacks, hitting .545, while Belanger added nine kills and 10 digs.
Petra Thomas contributed five kills while hitting .294.
