Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. — The Houghton University women's tennis team was swept 7-0 on the road Wednesday afternoon against SUNY Geneseo.
Houghton's top doubles tandem,
Sage Brinckerhoff and
Zoe Zachery, delivered the most competitive set in doubles action, playing to a 6-6 score, before falling 7-5 in a tiebreaker. At No. 2 doubles,
Victoria Martinez and
Abigail Lloyd fell 6-2, while the No. 3 pairing of
Prashansa Chakrapani and
Jessica Fornah dropped a 6-0 decision.
In singles competition, Brinckerhoff mounted a strong second-set comeback in the No. 1 position. After dropping her opening set 6-3 to Pipes, Brinckerhoff pushed the second set to a tiebreaker before falling 7-5 in the decider.
At No. 2 singles, Martinez took a game off Samantha Rava in a 6-0, 6-1 battle. Zachery, Lloyd, Chakrapani, and Fornah were unable to gain momentum across the remaining singles slots, each falling in straight sets.
