Women's Soccer Shuts Out Alfred on the Road

ALFRED, N.Y. — Houghton University earned its second consecutive Empire 8 Conference victory Wednesday night, posting a 1-0 shutout of Alfred University at Yunevich Stadium. The Highlanders improved to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Empire 8 play with the win.

Houghton controlled the shot count throughout the match, finishing with a 20-8 advantage, including an 11-4 edge in the opening half. The Highlanders also earned five corner kicks.

The lone goal came in the 43rd minute when Emma Kamas found the back of the net at 42:56, giving Houghton a 1-0 lead just before halftime. The goal was Kamas' only shot of the match, and it was on target.

Houghton continued to pressure the Alfred defense in the second half, putting nine more shots toward the goal. Alfred goalkeeper Lauren Mott made nine saves to keep the Saxons within one, but the Highlanders maintained the lead through the final whistle.

Olivia Short played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves to preserve the shutout. Alfred managed four shots on target in the match.

Houghton's attack was led by Hope Russell, who registered five shots, including two on goal. Grace Russell added two shots on target, while Taylor Curyto and Gracelyn Williams each recorded two shots.
