GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Houghton University women's tennis team opened its 2026 season Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Grove City College at Walters-Zbell Courts.
The Highlanders battled the Wolverines in doubles competition, with Sage Brinckerhoff and Zoe Zachery competing at No. 1 doubles and Abigail Lloyd and Prashansa Chakrapani playing at No. 2. Grove City claimed both matches by 6-0 scores, while the Wolverines also earned a win by forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Brinckerhoff provided Houghton's closest set of the afternoon at No. 1, taking four games from Grove City's Grace Stitt before falling 6-4, 6-0. Zachery competed at No. 2 singles, falling to Grace Yurko, 6-0, 6-3.
Lloyd dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Reagan Dougherty at No. 3 singles, while Chakrapani fell by the same score to Iris Kiehl at No. 4. At No. 5, Jessica Fornah was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Emma Flanigan. Grove City also received a win by forfeit at No. 6 singles.
With the result, Houghton begins the season 0-1.
