HOUGHTON, N.Y. — More than 250 student-athletes, coaches, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members gathered in Wesley Chapel on April 29 for Houghton University's annual Night of Excellence, a celebration of the outstanding achievements, character, and legacy of Highlander athletics.
The evening highlighted the past year's accomplishments while honoring individuals and teams who exemplify the department's motto: Excellence for the Glory of God.
Weightroom Warrior Awards
The Weightroom Warrior Awards recognize one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrate exceptional commitment to strength and conditioning.

Jenika Krum (Women's Soccer) — A model of consistency and dedication, Krum has spent three years building impressive strength gains while leading through quiet determination and daily effort.

Ethan Ernst (Baseball) — Known for his relentless work ethic and humility, Ernst has translated significant strength improvements into on-field performance while persevering through setbacks.

Kylee Barshinger (Field Hockey) — After a significant back injury, Barshinger returned to start all 17 games, scoring 14 goals and earning Empire 8 Second Team All-Conference honors.

Lukas Cornell (Baseball) — Following shoulder surgery, Cornell emerged as a dominant bullpen force with a 0.90 ERA and .222 opponent batting average.

Tabitha DeVries (Women's Basketball) — A team captain who surpassed 1,000 career points, DeVries led the conference in field goal percentage and guided her team to the Empire 8 Championship game.

Amos Bixler (Men's Cross Country/Track & Field) — A standout distance runner, Bixler earned All-Region honors and qualified for nationals while excelling across multiple events.

Noelle Linenfelser (Cross Country/Track & Field) — A record-setting distance runner, NCAA national qualifier, and outstanding scholar, Linenfelser leaves a legacy of excellence across all areas of the student-athlete experience.

Crysta LaCrosse (Women's Basketball) — One of the most decorated players in program history, LaCrosse combined elite performance with academic success and leadership, finishing with 1,254 career points and a 3.81 GPA.

Vincent "Vinny" Lucyszyn (Baseball) — A consistent and impactful leader, Lucyszyn ranks among program leaders in multiple categories while excelling academically and serving as SAAC President.
Celebrating the Senior Class
The evening also honored graduating seniors for their lasting contributions to Highlander athletics. Their leadership, integrity, and commitment have shaped the culture of the department and set a standard for future generations. Senior speeches were delivered by Daniele Schivo (men's soccer), Arija Grant (women's tennis) and Vincent Lucyszyn (baseball).
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic Passing of the Baton, as senior leaders entrusted the next generation to carry forward the legacy of excellence, leadership, and faith.
The 2026 Night of Excellence served as a powerful reminder of the impact of Houghton University student-athletes—on the field, in the classroom, and in the community—continuing a tradition grounded in purpose and driven by excellence.
