HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton University is proud to announce the exceptional academic achievements of its student-athletes for the Fall 2025 semester. Highlighting a season of dedication both on and off the field, the department achieved a collective
Term GPA of 3.35 across its 267 student-athletes.
The Empire 8 Conference recently announced its President's List, which honors student-athletes who maintain a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher. Houghton saw a remarkable
100 student-athletes earn this prestigious distinction this semester.
"The commitment to academic rigor is a fundamental pillar of our athletic programs," said Houghton Director of Athletics Matthew Webb. "Seeing our student-athletes exceed these conference benchmarks reflects their character and the support of our entire campus community."
Academic Highlights: Houghton's 267 student-athletes demonstrated consistent excellence across the board:
- 43 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA or higher.
- 146 student-athletes (over 54%) earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- 176 student-athletes maintained a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- 206 student-athletes (over 77%) finished the semester with a GPA above 3.0.
Team Success and All-Academic Honors: In addition to individual accolades,
11 of Houghton's 17 varsity programs were recognized as Empire 8 Conference All-Academic Teams for maintaining a collective team GPA of 3.2 or higher. Leading the way for the Highlanders were the Men's Tennis team (3.74) and the Women's Basketball team (3.59).

The Empire 8 Conference as a whole set a record with 1,773 student-athletes earning President's List distinction this semester. Houghton University remains a proud member of the conference, which is dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and the holistic development of student-athletes.
