HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Houghton men's tennis team fell to Penn State Behrend by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday, as the Lions capitalized on a strong start in doubles play and held on through singles competition.
Doubles – Lions Sweep to Take Control
Penn State Behrend secured the doubles point with victories in all three matches, putting Houghton behind 1-0 early in the contest.
The Highlanders competed across all three flights but were unable to come away with a win, as Behrend completed the sweep at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 doubles.
Singles – Camps, Schilke Earn Wins
Houghton found success in singles play with two key victories.
At No. 1 singles, Rune Camps delivered an impressive performance to earn a straight-set win and put the Highlanders on the board. Eben Schilke followed with a strong showing at No. 3 singles, also securing a straight-set victory for Houghton's second point.
Despite those efforts, Penn State Behrend claimed wins in the remaining four singles matches to secure the team victory.
Match Summary
Under the scoring format (1 point for doubles, 1 point per singles win), Penn State Behrend earned the doubles point and four singles victories for five total points. Houghton's wins from Camps and Schilke accounted for the Highlanders' two points in the 5-2 final.
