This past weekend featured two strong indoor performances from the
Houghton University Highlanders as they competed at both the
Cornell Kane Invitational and the
Nazareth D3 Elite Meet. Highlanders competed across sprints, distance, and field events, posting competitive marks and several notable finishes.
Cornell Kane Invitational Highlights
Highlights from the Women
- 60m Dash: Houghton entries competed in a deep field with multiple Highlanders advancing through prelims; Davannah Dunn (finishing 24th) and Maggie Pentz (27th) ran in a loaded, competitive dash.
- 200m Dash: Victoria Brewster was the top finisher among Division III competitors, crossing 8th overall in a competitive field.
- 800m Run: Several Highlanders competed, with Chloe Brandenburg, Grace Bailey, and Peyton Kellogg representing Houghton and factoring into mid-pack placements as times clustered in the 2:50s.
- 3000m Run: In the longer distance, Rachael Smith took 11th, followed by Risa Palmer and Mae Ennis in the 11:49 and 12:03 range.
Highlights from the Men
- 60m Dash: Claveze Robinson put down a personal best with a Houghton 3rd all-time mark of 7.21.
- 60m Hurdles: Mike Solomon continued his strong freshman campaign, breaking his own school record with an impressive 8.59.
- 800m Run: Highlander distance men Liam Gilroy, Keenan Rowcliffe, and Isaac Gasparri logged competitive times, with Gilroy and Rowcliffe both breaking 2:25.
- Field Events: Elijah Hungerford qualified for finals taking 8th place overall and Noah Almeter had a huge personal best in the weight throw, throwing 12.36m for 3rd all-time in Houghton's history.
Nazareth D3 Elite Meet
While primarily an invitational focused on a host of D3 programs, a few Highlander marks stood out in mixed competition.
Highlights from the Women
- Mile Run: Jenna Binney delivered one of Houghton's strongest placings of the weekend, finishing 2nd in the women's mile with a solid time just behind Nazareth's Ella Impaglia.
- 3000m Run: Highlander distance athletes were right in the mix — Emberlynn Nolt finished 2nd overall in a fast field and was followed by teammates Aria Larson (6th) and Amy Collins (14th).
- High Jump: Alexa Belanger cleared 1.58m for a podium finish (3rd) amongst top regional competition — a great showing in a deep jumping group.
Highlights from the Men
- 800m Run: Henry Sardina clocked a 1:57.11, finishing 6th in a deep final while Evan Geer also posted a strong effort, finishing 11th in 2:00.37.
- 1 Mile Run: Amos Bixler delivered one of Houghton's top results of the meet with a new school record of 4:16.01, placing 1st overall.
- 3000m Run: Ben Allen ran 9:07.30, placing 5th overall. Connor Little also had a strong showing with a 9:09.91 finish.
- 5000m Run: Salim Ford competed well in the 5000, finishing in 16:14.57.
