Houghton Names Mark Corbin as Next Men’s Volleyball Head Coach

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton University has announced the hiring of Mark Corbin as its next head coach of the Highlanders' men's volleyball program.

Corbin brings more than 20 years of coaching and program leadership experience across NCAA Division I, II, NAIA, and NCCAA levels, as well as extensive work in club volleyball. Most recently, he served as head men's volleyball coach at Emmanuel University in Georgia, where his teams earned multiple conference honors, including a Conference Defensive Player of the Year and two First-Team All-Conference selections.

Prior to Emmanuel, Corbin was Director of Volleyball and Head Coach at Truett McConnell University (NAIA), where he launched both the men's indoor and women's beach volleyball programs. Under his leadership, his teams set school records for wins, produced numerous all-conference performers, and achieved strong academic recognition with 25 NAIA All-Academic Players and eight NAIA All-Academic Teams. He also served a season as an assistant at Bob Jones University, under legendary coach Vicki Denny, helping the Bruins to their first NCCAA National Championship.

In addition to his collegiate coaching career, Corbin has directed and coached at the club level, including most recently at 575 Volleyball Club in Georgia, and previously spent more than a decade as a high school coach, athletic director, and physical education teacher.

"We are excited for Coach Corbin to join our coaching team and lead our men's volleyball program," said Houghton Director of Athletics Matthew Webb. "Coach Corbin has some unique experience in starting new programs that will serve him well as we continue to build and grow our new men's volleyball program at Houghton. Most importantly he is passionate about investing in his athletes and creating a culture that represents Christ."

Corbin expressed his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity. "I want to thank Dr. Wayne Lewis and Dr. Matthew Webb for the opportunity to join the athletic staff at Houghton," said Corbin. "From the start of this process, it was clear that Houghton is a family rooted in Christ, and I know it is the perfect fit for me and my family. I believe God has great things in store for this program, and I'm excited to get to work with a group of men who are eager to grow in the game of volleyball and in their love for Christ, their school, and their community."

Corbin holds a bachelor's degree in Physical Education Teaching and Coaching from Northland International University.

The Highlanders' men's volleyball program, which launched in 2023, continues to build its foundation of excellence both on and off the court. Corbin becomes the second full-time head coach in program history as Houghton looks to make its mark in the Empire 8 conference. Last year's interim head coach David Bourne will step back into an assistant role with the team for the upcoming season.
