HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis gave Oneonta all it could handle but ultimately fell 4-3 Tuesday at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.

The Highlanders fell behind 1-0 overall after losing all three doubles matches, but the hosts rebounded with strong play across all six singles matchups.

Sage Brinckerhoff (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), Arija Grant (6-2, 7-6) and Victoria Martinez (6-4, 6-4) each won their singles matches. Clancey Cockle played a tough match in third singles, but lost 6-0, 6-7, 1-6.

Houghton returns to Empire 8 action on Wednesday when they host Geneseo at 5 p.m.
