ALBANY, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in Empire 8 play after a 7-0 win over Russell Sage on the road Saturday.
The Highlanders lost just two games across the nine matches, going 6-0 in all three double matches and then winning second, third, fifth and sixth singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The matches at first and fourth singles went to the Highlanders by 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 scores, respectively.
Getting the singles victories for Houghton were
Arija Grant,
Sage Brinckerhoff,
Clancey Cockle,
Zoe Zachery,
Victoria Martinez and
Abigail Lloyd.
Grant and Brinckerhoff, Cockle and Zachery, and Martinez and
Angelina Miller teamed for the three doubles victories.
Houghton's win broke a two-match losing streak to the Gators and improved the all-time series head to head record to 7-3.
The Highlanders return home to battle Oneonta on Tuesday, September 23 at 4 p.m.
