UTICA, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis blanked Utica, 7-0, to earn its first Empire 8 win and second-straight victory of the season on Saturday.
Houghton swept all three doubles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-4 to earn the first point of the match and wetn undefeated in each set of the six singles maches to claim the win.
Earning the singles wins were
Arija Grant (6-2, 6-2),
Sage Brinckerhoff (6-0, 6-0),
Clancey Cockle (6-0, 6-0),
Zoe Zachery (6-2, 6-2),
Victoria Martinez (6-0, 6-2) and
Abigail Lloyd (6-0, 6-3).
"I'm super proud of the level of tennis that we played today," said Head Coach
Matthew Webb. "It was a solid team win... good tennis across the board. We are looking forward to taking on St. John Fisher next week."
Houghton is back in action at home on Tuesday, September 16 when they host St. John Fisher at 5 p.m.
