HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis evened its record at 1-1 on the season after a 6-1 home victory over Fredonia at the outdoor courts on Wednesday.
After gaining a point with a sweep of all three doubles matches, the Highlanders won five of six in singles play.
Arija Grant and
Sage Brinckerhoff teamed up for a hard-fought 7-5 win in first doubles, with
Zoe Zachery and
Clancey Cockle (6-3) and
Victoria Martinez and
Abigail Lloyd (6-0) earning wins at second and third doubles, respectively.
Singles wins went to Grant (6-4, 6-4), Brinckerhoff (6-1, 6-1), Cockle (6-1, 6-3), Zachery (6-1, 6-1) and Martinez (6-2, 6-4).
Angelina Miller played a tough match at sixth singles, losing 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 4-10.Â
Houghton is back in action with its first conference match of the season when they travel to Utica on Saturday, September 13 for a 1 p.m. contest.
