HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- After two-straight conference losses, Houghton men's tennis bounced back with a decisive 8-1 win over St. John Fisher on Saturday at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.
Houghton opened the match with a sweep of doubles play. In singles,
Nolan Zach led the way with a three-set win in first singles.
Preston Tobolski,
Graham Cook,
Samuel Garay, and
Jason Murphy earned straight-set singles match wins.
Houghton's only loss came in a tight sixth singles match.
Isaac Anderson played tough in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-10 defeat.
"This was a bounce back match for us. The team played intense tennis today and we were able to take care of business against St. John Fisher. We started doubles with a ton of energy and were able to use that to get us a big 3-0 lead and from there we were unstoppable," said Head Coach
Jordan Crouch. "I want to give a shoutout to Nolan for getting a gutsy win at number one. Nolan fought back in a big way in his second set and pulled out a huge win. There was a ton of fight up and down the lineup today. Sam's continued to be a dominant force at fourth singles, and that second doubles pairing is playing so well right now. We're going to use today as a springboard into the second half of E8 play. Let's go Highlanders!"
Houghton returns to action when they host Alfred on Wednesday, April 16 at 4 p.m.
