HOUGHTON, NY – The Highlanders played host to AMCC opponent Buffalo State. Both teams were looking for their first conference win but it was the Bengals who took the match 3-1.

The Highlanders hosted Buffalo State for an AMCC showdown on Tuesday night. Both teams were looking for their first conference win, but it was the Bengals who took control of the match early in set one. They put together an impressive offensive attack tallying 13 kills and only committing three errors hitting .455. This propelled them to a 25-9 set one win.
Houghton started off set two much better than set one keeping the score point for point for most of the set. They did not allow Buffalo State to gain more than a three-point advantage. The Highlanders were looking at a one-point deficit late in the second set, but it was the Bengals who won the set 25-20.
With their backs against the wall, Houghton put together a strong third set. They found some offensive rhythm collecting nine kills and hitting .222 and got the third set victory 25-18 despite a late set push by the Bengals.
Houghton used the momentum of the third set victory to propel them to an early fourth set lead. However, the Bengals settled in and rallied off five points to gain a late lead and one that Houghton could not overcome. Buffalo State won the fourth set, 25-20 and took the match 3-1.
