Track & Field Produces Ten Top Five Finishes at Brockport Multi & Invitational

BROCKPORT, NY – The Highlander track & field team traveled to SUNY Brockport on Friday and Saturday February 7 & 8 to compete at the Brockport Multi & Invitational. On Friday, the multi event athletes started their competition. Andrew Ryan competed in day one of his first ever Heptathlon, and Neve Tilley, Rosa Derstine, and Grace Gasparri competed in the Pentathlon. It was the first multi competition for Derstine. Ryan came back on Saturday to finish day two of the Heptathlon. Ryan, Tilley, and Derstine all hit the Empire 8 standard. They will wait to see if they make the top 12 to compete in the championships on 2/28-3/1.

The majority of the team traveled and competed on Saturday. The team finished with a total of 31 personal best performances and 10 top ten all-time program performances! In addition, Evan Kurtz, AGAIN, broke his program record in the 60m with 6.94 seconds, and won the event. This is the new Empire 8 leading mark. Several other Highlanders placed top 3 in their respective events. Amos Bixler won the 1,000m (2:34.74), Victoria Brewster won the 200m (25.97), Gwenna Haas won the 600m (1:43.95), Tabitha Clark and Miranda Lyon were 2nd and 3rd in the 1,000m (3:17.56, 3:20.76), Alexa Belanger was 2nd in the High Jump (1.59m), James Eustace 4th in the 600m (1:24.50), Jenna Binney 4th in the 800m (2:25.73), and Noelle Linenfelser 5th in the mile (5:32.69).

Coach Hager commented after the meet, "Coach Beauregard took the reigns of the program today, as I had a personal event to attend. His leadership and enthusiasm are contagious and authentic. Simply put, our crew knows how to get the job done, and enjoy the process of doing it. This was perfect prep for a big meet in Manhattan next week. A special hats off to our multi crew today. Those opportunities are few and far between and they took full advantage of it."

The Highlanders are competing in the DIII Invitational hosted by NYU at The Armory in NYC on 2/15.
