ELMIRA, N.Y.— A trio of Highlanders put their team on their backs when it mattered most, carrying the Houghton women their 15
th win of the season, as they defeated the Elmira Soaring Eagles, 62-51.
After the Highlanders took a slim, five-point advantage into the half, the Soaring Eagles bounced back in the third quarter, tying the game, 39-39.
But Houghton's
Tabitha DeVries,
Kayla Camacho and
Crysta LaCrosse combined to score 20 of the team's 23 fourth-quarter points, as Houghton pulled away for the victory.
The trio hit all eight free throws they attempted, and sank 5-of-8 shots from the field over the final 10 minutes.
DeVries, Camacho and LaCrosse also combined to score 49 of the team's 62 points (79 percent) in the game.
