Women's Soccer Gets E8 Win over Keuka

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Hope Russell played hero once again, tallying a late goal to send Houghton women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Keuka at home Wednesday.

Sophia Templeton gathered in a failed Keuka clearance, moved toward the right touch line and placed a perfect pass into the box where Russell gathered it in at the near post and sent a shot into the far side of the net. It was Russell's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The game was a battle throughout. Houghton outshot the Wolves, 8-3, in the first half and increased the pressure after the break. The Highlanders totaled 13 shots over the final 45 minutes. That pressure was elevated in the moments before the game-winner, as Houghton put five shots on net between the 72nd and 78th minutes.

Russell led the Highlanders with five shots on the night. Preslee Miller earned the shutout, stopping two shots.

It was the fourth-straight win for the Highlanders over the Wolves and pushed the series mark since 2012 to 6-1 in favor of Houghton.

The Highlanders travel to face Hartwick on Saturday, October 11 at 1 p.m.
