HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Amid constant rain and chilly fall temps, Houghton men's soccer came out on the short end of a 6-0 result vs. Geneseo at Burke Field on Wednesday night.
The Knights scored twice in the opening 45 minutes and added four more after the break.
The visitors proved to be a tough side all night, getting to almost every loose ball and creating numerous scoring changes with good pace and precision passing.
Houghton struggled to put many balls into the attacking third. The team's best chance in the first half was a
Carter Benham shot that went just wide in the 31st minute.
The Highlanders were able to muster a few shots late in the contest, but by that time, the game was out of reach.
The Knights outshot the Highlanders, 19-5, and had a 10-0 advantage in corners.
Joshua Smith got the start and allowed three goals with three saves in 65 minutes of play.
Stephen McLamb allowed three goals in the final 25 minutes.
Despite the loss, Houghton is still in the hunt for an E8 playoff berth with two games remaining. They return to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Sage at 1 p.m.
