ALFRED, NY – Seven players picked up goals for the Houghton Highlanders, as they picked up a much-needed Empire 8 victory, defeating the Alfred Saxons, 7-0.
With the win, Houghton clinched their fourth consecutive Empire 8 postseason berth. They are currently the fifth seed, but could finish as high as fourth or as low as sixth, depending on this weekend's results.
Lilyana Good opened the scoring for Houghton in the seventh minute of play off a penalty corner.
Kylee Barshinger would add another goal three minutes later, and
Elena Roberts scored her first goal of the year with less than two minutes remaining before the end of the half to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead at the half.
The second half was all Houghton, as the Highlanders peppered the Saxons' goal with 29 shots, scoring four more goals, three of which came in the final quarter.
