ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis wrapped up its fall season with a 4-0 loss to #3 seed Nazareth on Wednesday afternoon in Rochester in the first round of the Empire 8 Tournament.
The No. 6 seeded Highlanders lost the doubles point after falling in the first and third pairings. Second doubles went unfinished with the Highlanders trailing.
Moving on to singles play, Houghton played strong, but wins at first, fourth and sixth singles won the match for the Golden Flyers. The other three matches went unfinished after Nazareth clinched the overall win. Houghton got strong play from
Sage Brinckerhoff (second singles) and
Victoria Martinez (fifth singles) who were both up a set and battling in the second sets when the match ended.
Houghton finished the fall season with a record of 4-9 overall and 3-5 in E8 play.
