Hawks Soar Past Highlanders in Men's Soccer Action

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Two early goals was all Hartwick needed as they cruised to a 5-1 win over Houghton men's soccer on Saturday at Burke Field.

The Hawks didn't waste any time taking control, scoring just :28 seconds into the contest. They added a second tally just a minute later. Houghton put on some pressure in the ensuring minutes and just a two strong chances, the best being a driving shot from James Fay that caromed off the bar. The follow-up header went just wide.

Houghton was able to pull within a goal in the 33rd minute on a 30-yard blast from Eben Schilke. But the Hawks regained the two-goal advantage in the 41st minute.

The visitors added two more goals in the second half and kept any Houghton chances at bay with strong defending.

Pedro Ruz Welker maded five saves in net.

Shots were 15-8 in favor of the Hawks, who also had a 7-1 edge in corners.

Houghton returns to action on Wednesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. when they host St. John Fisher.
