HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis is still looking for its first win of the season after a 7-0 loss to Cortland State on Thursday at the Houghton Outdoor Courts.
Houghton saw strong play across several of the individual matches, but were unable to secure any match victories. The closest match of the afternoon belonged to
Kelsi Clapper at fifth singles. She forced a tie break in the first set, losing 7-5, and was just edged 6-4 in set two.
Arija Grant played tough at first singles, while freshman
Victoria Martinez bounced back from a 6-0 first set loss to lose 6-2 in the second.
"All week we have been focused on our process. Making sure we're making the right decisions at the right time for the right result," said Head Coach
Jordan Crouch. We have also been focused on improving our energy as individuals and as a team. Today both of those things were greatly improved. As a whole we were loud and confident, and we made the decisions we needed to make when we needed to make them. Cortland is a great program and we were able to compete with them up and down the lineup. Proud of our effort today and excited to practice tomorrow to get ready for Daemen on Saturday. Let's go Highlanders!"
Houghton returns to action with another home match Saturday vs. Daemen at noon.
