BROCKPORT, NY – For the third game in row, a late opposing goal doomed the Houghton Highlanders. This time, Quinn Guy scored the game-winner for the Brockport Golden Eagles in the 78
th minute (second overtime), sending the Highlanders to their first 0-3 start in Empire 8 conference play since 2017.
Houghton fought back from a two-goal deficit late in the final period.
Madison Gancasz pulled the Highlanders within a goal in the 55
th minute, and five minutes later, as time expired in regulation,
Lilyana Good put away the tying goal, sending the game into overtime.
In the opening minutes, Brockport peppered the Houghton goal, but goalie
Amber Cribbs turned away multiple shots. With only seconds remaining, Gancasz nearly finished the game, but Brockport goalie Ella Buchanan rejected the shot.
Houghton outpaced the Golden Eagles in the second overtime, four shots-to-two, but the final Brockport shot was the only one that mattered, as Guy finished the game winner with just over two minutes to play before the whistle.
