HOUGHTON, NY – A pair of first-half goals gave the William Smith Herons all the offense they would need as they defeated the Houghton Highlanders, 3-1.
Mia Batchekder put the Herons on the board just over six minutes into the game, then Caroline Kogut extended the lead in the 18
th minute.
The score remained 2-0 until two minutes before the end of the third period, when
Madison Gancasz found
Bekah Davie, who pulled the Highlanders within a goal with a shot into the back of the cage.
William Smith, however, would fend off late opportunities by the Houghton offense and tack on an insurance goal from Leah Griffith with only 32 seconds left on the clock.
