ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Houghton women's tennis secured its first doubles point of the season, earned two singles points and just missed on several close singles matches in a 4-3 loss at Oneonta on Wednesday.

MyaKay Bartman and Zoe Zachery teamed for a 6-4 win in second doubles, while Clancey Cockle and Kelsi Clapper earned a 6-0 shutout in third doubles. In singles play, Zachery and Clapper earned victories in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

"Third doubles, fifth, and sixth singles led the way for us today. Special shoutout to Abby, Angelina, and Victoria for bringing the energy from the bench. It was a great test for our women and we will look to carry some momentum to conference play starting on Saturday. Let's go Highlanders!"

Houghton gets its Empire 8 slate underway on Saturday when they host Utica at 1 p.m.
