Davie Reaches Milestone as Highlanders Hangs on in Firestorm Final Quarter to Defeat Neumann

ASTON, PA – In a dramatic final 15 minutes, the Houghton Highlanders staved off a furious comeback effort and held on to defeat the Neumann Knights on Saturday afternoon, 3-2.

Jace Hunzinger scored her second goal in as many games on a pass from Adria Hartzler in the 15th minute of play to give the Highlanders an early lead.

Houghton would maintain that 1-0 advantage for the next 34:30, before Bekah Davie would find the back of the cage on another Hartzler assist to put the Highlanders up by two. The goal by Davie gave her 101 career points, becoming only the third player in Houghton history to reach the milestone.

Less than a minute later, Neumann would score to pull within a goal, but Ashley Quinnett answered less than a minute afterwards, again giving Houghton a two-goal advantage.

Moments later, Neuman scored what appeared to be their second goal, only to have the goal called back.  But in the 56th minute, the Knights struck again, and this time the goal stood, cutting the Highlanders lead to a single goal.

Neuman would mount one final effort with less than two minutes to play, only to be turned away by Houghton goalie Amber Cribbs, as the Highlanders hung on for their second win of the young season.
