WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Houghton women's tennis got wins in fifth and sixth singles and third doubles, but ultimately fell 5-2 on the road to Lycoming in the team's season opener on Friday.

Despite the three individual match wins, a new scoring format in non-conference matches now gives teams just one team point for winning two of the three doubles matches.

"It was a fantastic match today for our women to start the year. Coach Baker and I saw lots of great points up and down the match," said Head Coach Jordan Crouch. "There's definitely some things to work on but we can attack those tomorrow and next week in practice. Congrats to Victoria getting two wins in her first collegiate match. She played very well and without fear. I'm excited for another chance to prove ourselves against Oswego on Saturday."
