ALFRED, NY – The track & field teams traveled to SUNY Alfred on Friday to compete in an invitational that was very reminiscent of the old Allegany County Classic from 2015-2019. Alfred University was the other team in attendance. The weather cleared a little ways into the meet, and the Highlanders made the most of it. Amongst several event winners came five top 10 all-time performances. Amos Bixler and James Eustace executed a beautiful 800m race to take first and second, and record the top two marks in the Empire 8 this year in 1:57.94 and 1:58.02. Kyra Binney also won the 800m and improved her seed in the Empire 8 to 4^th with a mark of 2:26.74. Victoria Brewster and Avery Belanger were the top collegiate finishers in all the events that they competed in. Brewster set an outdoor personal best of 5.02m in the long jump, and comfortably won the 100m and 200m. Belanger took the 110HH and the triple jump.

"I saw what I needed to see from the team this evening. What I'm seeing is the team really getting sharp and engaged, just two weeks ahead of our Empire 8 Championships. For some, it was competing in different distances, and being pleasantly surprised with the outcomes. For our power athletes, it was getting some much needed reps in reasonable weather conditions. I'm very excited for next weeks meet at St. John Fisher," remarked Coach Hager.
