ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Houghton men's tennis grabbed its second win over Nazareth this season, taking a 6-3 victory on the road Friday afternoon.
The win kept the Highlanders undefeated (4-0) in league play with two matches to play. It also extended the program's E8 win streak to 41 matches.
Houghton got the match off to a great start with wins in all three doubles matchups.
Levi Webb and
Nolan Zach won 8-3 in first doubles,
Micah Schilke and
Graham Cook took an 8-5 win in the second pairing and
Tobias Webb and
Jason Murphy finished with an 8-6 win third doubles.
The Highlanders then got wins in first, second and sixth singles.
Micah Schilke won a hard-fought matchup in first singles, 6-3, 7-5.
Levi Webb (second) and
Preston Tobolski (sixth) earned the other two victories. Even though they came up short in singles play,
Nolan Zach (third) and
Graham Cook (fourth) pushed their opponents to the limit. Zach lost 5-7, 3-6, while Cook's match went three sets (2-6, 6-2, 3-6).
Houghton (5-4; 4-0 E8) is back in action Saturday for another E8 match when they travel to St. John Fisher to take on the Cardinals at 1 p.m.
