AURORA, N.Y. -- After a three-week break, Houghton men's volleyball returned to action with an 0-3 loss to Wells College on the road on Wednesday.
The Highlanders had beaten the Express at home in a thrilling five-set match on February 14, but the team's layoff showed some rust and the team couldn't get their offense on track this time around, losing 25-18, 25-12, 25-17.
The Wells attack was powerful throughout the match, recording 34 kills and a hitting percentage of .364, while tallying just six hitting errors.
For the Highlanders,
Devin Burns led the team with five kills,
Elijah Sproull added four kills and five assists, and
Gabriel Lucena had three kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Anthony Panboon chipped in with 10 digs, while
Jerry Buno had a team-high seven assists.
Houghton (2-11) returns to action Thursday when they host Finger Lakes Community College at 7 p.m. in the Nielsen Center.
