Houghton Set to Host E8 Indoor Track Championships

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton University will serve as host for the 2024 Empire 8 Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Kerr-Pegula Field House.

The two-day event starts at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 23. Day two action will begin on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m.

Live results and live video will be available both days. For more on this year's championship - including entries, results, and updated information - please head to the Championship Central page.

For Houghton, both teams will look to improve on last year's fourth place finishes, and several athletes will seek out individual titles.

For the women, first-year Victoria Brewster enters the meet with the top time among all E8 student-athletes in the 60-meter dash. She is also second in the 200-meters and fifth in the 400-meters. Noelle Linenfesler, the 2023 Empire 8 Cross Country Runner of the Year, will look to earn titles in both distance races, while Kyra Binney is Houghton's top middle distance runner. Houghton is always well represented in the relay events and this season should be no different. Graduate transfer Madison Palmer, who was an All-E8 selection at Alfred University, will contend for league titles in both the shot put and weight throw. Katie Widmer will contend for points in both jumps events.

On the men's side, Evan Kurtz will look to earn points in the sprint events, while Zach Tucker, Amos Bixler and James Eustace will contend in the middle distance events. Caleb Kasper has emerged as one of the top distance runners in the E8 and should contend for a league title in both the 3,000- and 5,000-meter events. He is the defending Empire 8 Champion in the 5,000-meters and is seeded second this season. Houghton's strong distance runners propelled them to the 2023 E8 Cross Country Championship. Avery Belanger enters the championship seeded first in the triple jump with a leap of 13.19 meters, fourth in the long jump and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles. Houghton's distance medley relay team will also contend for the league title.
