PITTSFORD, NY – The track & field teams traveled to Nazareth College to compete in their final meet of the indoor track & field regular season. In preparation for the Empire 8 Championships, some athletes were vying to hit the qualifying standard and others were looking to prepare by competing in different events, in order to gain a variety of training adaptations. Several of the top distance runners helped to 'pace' their teammates to personal best performances. When all was said and done, there were twenty-four personal best marks at the meet. This is a fantastic sign as the Highlanders look for peak performances next week. The women were led by
Madison Palmer, who improved her school record in the Shot Put to 12.13m. She's the only person to ever throw over 12.00m in program history. The men were paced by
Avery Belanger, who set two personal best marks in the long jump and triple jump. His leap of 6.37m in the long jump was a near 40cm personal best, and sits #4 in the Empire 8. In the triple jump, he jumped 13.19m to improve his #1 Empire 8 mark, which is a 6cm personal best.
Coach Hager remarked, "What a team day. To us, the emotional peak and the physical peak go hand in hand. What I sensed, throughout the afternoon and evening, was a team who still has a lot to give. Energy breeds energy in track & field, as the competition goes for hours upon hours. We can now put our entire focus on the Empire 8 Championships next weekend. We are thankful to be able to host the teams here, and plan to take full advantage of competing on our home track"
