Brockport Gets Past Women's Tennis, 5-4

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton women's just missed out on its second conference win of the season, losing 5-4 to visiting Brockport at Houghton on Friday.

The match was played before a supportive home crowd, including many alumni who had returned for Homecoming weekend. While the majority of the match was played on the outdoor courts, deteriorating weather conditions forced the second singles match to be completed in the Kerr-Pegula Field House.

The Highlanders claimed wins at first and second doubles before dropping the match at third doubles. Houghton also claimed wins at third (Clancey Cockle) and fourth singles (MyaKay Bartman), and most of the other singles matches were competitively played by both teams.

"We knew this match would be a nail-biter all week. Super fun match all the way through. I am so proud of our energy and effort today. We fought Brockport the whole way through and gave them all we had. Unfortunately we weren't able to convert that lead in after doubles, but it was a great team effort today," said Houghton Head Coach Jordan Crouch. "Shoutout to all of the fans that came, the atmosphere at this match was exactly what we had hoped for on homecoming. Thanks especially to the men's tennis team for doing all of the work setting up our nets when the weather took a turn for the worse. I love this team. We can't wait to travel to Hartwick tomorrow to take on a fantastic Hawks squad. Let's go, Highlanders!"

The Highlanders head out on the road Saturday when they take on Hartwick at 1 p.m. in another E8 contest.
