Opening-Set Comeback Propels Highlanders to Straight-Set Victory Over Brockport

HOUGHTON, NY – Less than 16 hours removed from a tough three-set road loss, the Houghton Highlanders picked up a much-needed victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating the visiting Brockport Golden Eagles in straight sets.

In the opening set, it appeared that the Golden Eagles would cruise to an easy victory, building an early 17-9 advantage.  But Houghton quickly reeled off five straight points to trim the deficit to only three points, 17-14.

Brockport again built a sizable lead late in the set, 23-17, but again Houghton peeled off five straight points, capped by consecutive kills from Jessica Prentice, Emma Cole and Ella Smith.

After the Golden Eagles forced set point, 24-22, Houghton actualized the inconceivable, winning five the of the final six points, capped by another kill from Cole, to complete the come-back first-set victory.

Houghton would capitalize on the momentum, rolling through the second set and building a commanding lead in the third, from which they never looked back, completed the three-set victory.
